We knew there was something special about Energy Profits from day one. Now, we’re the proud recipient of two Webby Awards for this amazing project – selected by the judges as the Webby Winner for Best Data Visualization and by the public as the People’s Voice Winner for Activism.
History-making profits, world-ending emissions
In 2022, global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels hit a record high, climate disasters escalated, and the profits of the five largest oil and gas companies soared to nearly $200 billion. Energy Profits, a small group of journalists and researchers, asked us to help expose this shocking juxtaposition of extreme wealth and the devastation of our planet.
We created a hard-hitting brand, website and campaign assets that bring the facts together in one place for the first time and used bold data visualisation to highlight the need to tax these record-breaking profits to help finance the UN Loss and Damage Fund and support the UN SDGs. After all, the numbers don’t lie.
To be recognised by The Webby Awards for our work on such an important climate change campaign makes it even more rewarding.
As Ben, our Creative Director and Founder, says, “We believe in creativity for a better world so we’re delighted to partner with Energy Profits. Huge thanks to our brilliant team for creating such a powerful campaign and thank you to the Webby Awards judges and everyone who voted for us. We’re proud to be helping get the message out that the polluters must pay.”
Creativity with conscience, award-winning website
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organisation honouring excellence on the internet.
With 13,000 pieces of work submitted from over 70 countries, and over 2.2 Million votes cast by over 550,000 people in this year’s Webby Awards, winning two awards is a fantastic achievement.
“Jory&Co and Energy Profits have set the standard for innovation and creativity on the internet,” comments Nick Borenstein, General Manager of The Webby Awards. “This award is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators.”
We’ll be honoured at the 28th Annual Webby Awards on 13 May and have the opportunity to deliver one of the famous 5-Word Speeches. Hosted by comedian Amber Ruffin (Late Night with Seth Meyers), you can follow and watch the show highlights @thewebbyawards on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube.
