A website created by global design studio Jory&Co has won the Best ‘Activism’ Website and Mobile Site in the 29th Annual Webby Awards.
The website and campaign for Cap Plastic Now was developed in partnership with Full Beam Media. Launched ahead of the landmark Global Plastics Treaty negotiations in November 2024, it exposes the influence of the fossil fuel industry and calls for a cap on plastic production.
This is the second year in a row that Jory&Co has been recognised in the ‘Activism’ category of the Webby Awards – an amazing achievement for a small studio made up of 12 people who work remotely from locations across the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Spain and South Africa.
Plastic is the oil and gas industry’s Plan B. It currently represents 12% of the world’s oil demand and 8.5% of gas demand. Plastic production is responsible for 5.3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, a figure that is set to double by 2050 unless production is reduced. Meanwhile, globally just 9% of plastic is recycled. To tackle climate change, protect our health and prevent pollution, plastic production must be capped now.
The Cap Plastic Now website is full of powerful and confronting imagery, engaging data visualisation, punchy messaging and a raw colour palette to get the urgency of the plastics crisis across. In an area rife with misinformation, the website links out to trusted sources and research.
With a focus on brilliant creative that brings change, Jory&Co was also recognised for two other creations in the 2025 Webby Awards. The Cavex website was a Nominee in the ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ category and the Blue Forest website was named Honoree in the ‘Charitable Organizations/Non-Profit’ category.
Ben Jory, Founder and Creative Director of Jory&Co, comments, “It’s such an honour to win a Webby Award and even more special because it’s for the Cap Plastic Now website, which is helping to tackle the climate crisis and protect people’s health. By visually linking the ubiquitous plastic bottle with dripping oil and billowing emissions, and putting hard-hitting data front and centre, the website makes the fact that plastics mean oil and oil means emissions impossible to ignore.”
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organisation honouring excellence on the Internet.
IADAS, which nominates and selects The Webby Award Winners are selected by a judging body of internet industry experts, including Quinta Brunson, Writer, Director, and Actor; Todd Kaplan, Chief Marketing Officer, Kraft Heinz; Jaime Teevan, Chief Scientist, Microsoft; Marian Croak, VP of Engineering – Responsible AI & Human Centered Technology, Google; Bob Carrigan, CEO, Audible; and Katie Couric, Journalist.
“Jory&Co isn’t just shaping the Internet – they’re redefining it,” says Nick Borenstein, General Manager of The Webby Awards. “This honor celebrates the fearless creativity and sharp execution that make their work an unmistakable force online.”
The 29th Annual Webby Awards ceremony will take place in New York on 12 May 2025 and will be hosted by comedian Ilana Glazer.
