“We were very impressed with Jory&Co’s strategic approach to the creation of Backchannel. They were able to quickly distill complex goals into a bold creative vision that helped shape a news brand with real clarity and purpose. The result is a distinctive, credible voice that’s already cutting through with our audience and being referenced by some of the biggest news outlets in the international diplomacy space.”

The Challenge
The climate movement lacked a premier space for opinion and analysis at the intersection of climate, trade, security, technology, health and geopolitics. Traditional media outlets were narrowing, squeezing climate out of the global conversation. At the same time, a network of experts and emerging voices had access to vital insights but limited opportunities to be heard. Climate diplomacy and the energy transition are the critical stories of our time, so they are committed to shining a light on these diplomatic backchannels and bringing them to the fore.
The Idea
We created Backchannel: a bold, distinctive brand built for diplomacy and debate. At its centre is a distinctive ‘B’ icon, formed from interwoven lines symbolising the channels through which information flows between politicians, lobbyists, journalists and diplomats. Typography is equally uncompromising: direct, upper-case messaging paired with a minimalist layout. The stripped-back style ensures the focus stays on the strength of the stories, not the design.
The Outcome
The result is a brand and website that feels credible, confident and neutral, giving trusted voices and emerging thinkers the platform they need to shape debate and influence global diplomacy. Backchannel will feature essays, analysis, and curated dispatches with an informed but accessible tone. Each piece aims to provoke thought and deliver fresh analysis, not just summarise existing positions.
