Helping cities rethink water
WaterNow helps local leaders across the US adopt climate-resilient water strategies. From green infrastructure and water reuse to watershed protection and urban forestry, their work helps communities get ready for whatever the climate throws at them.
The challenge
After years of growth, WaterNow’s online world had become hard to find your way around. Brilliant content was spread across two websites, several initiatives and a handful of resource libraries. The people who needed it most were struggling to find it.
They came to us thinking they needed a new website. What they really needed was a rethink of how everything fitted together.
What we did
Over 18 months we merged two websites into one. We started with in-depth user research, then audited and restructured hundreds of pages. We built a new content strategy and information architecture, refreshed the brand and focused the messaging. Then we designed and built the new site, with subtle motion and interactions inspired by the way water moves.
The outcome
It’s the most complex website we’ve ever delivered. Not because of flashy tech, but because of the thinking it took to make something complicated feel simple. Local leaders can now find the guidance, tools and support they need in one place.
Good design shouldn’t make complexity look clever. It should make it disappear.
